Trip Report

As our boots met the well-trodden path at Goat Creek Parking Lot, we couldn’t help but be giddy about the adventure ahead. Ha Ling Peak might seem intimidating to some, but with each switchback conquered, the reward grew sweeter.

Halfway through, the trail unveils a viewpoint that left us awe-struck. Not just a pitstop, this spot could have easily been a destination on its own. The vast expanse of the Bow Valley stretched out beneath, with the town of Canmore like a quaint Lego set amidst the giants of the Rockies. It’s a sight to behold and a photographer’s dream – the blue hues of the mountains meshing with the teal ribbon of waterways below. It’s no exaggeration to say that this viewpoint offers some of the best views on the trail.

Pushing ahead, the final ascent to the peak is steeper and can be a bit challenging for some, but the 360-degree view at the summit is nothing short of exhilarating. Looking out, one can see the entirety of the Bow Valley, Mount Lawrence Grassi, and even the town of Canmore, nestled amidst the towering peaks.

However, the journey doesn’t end with the descent. On the return trip to Canmore, we made a delightful detour to Rundle Reservoir, which was packed with paddle boarders and sunbathers. After the sweat and toil of the climb, there’s nothing more rejuvenating than a brisk dip in this alpine gem. Surrounded by mountains and dense forests, the lake provided a tranquil spot to reflect on our adventure and soothe our tired muscles.

Recommendations

Start Early: To avoid the midday sun and the usual crowd, kick off your hike by early morning. The tranquility and sunrise hues are an added perk.

Pack Wisely: Snacks, ample water, sunblock, and a camera are must-haves. The weather can be unpredictable, so layers are your best friend.

Stay Safe: The latter part of the hike can be a bit steep and tricky. Hiking poles and good hiking shoes can be helpful.

Rundle Reservoir: Don’t just take a dip. If time allows, pack a picnic and enjoy the serene backdrop the reservoir offers. It’s the perfect end to a perfect day.

Ha Ling Peak, with its breathtaking views and the joyous dip at Quarry Lake, is more than just a hike; it’s an experience. It’s a reminder of nature’s vast beauty, and the tiny yet significant place we hold within it. As we bid adieu to Canmore, our hearts were a tad bit heavier, but our souls? Definitely elevated.

Best Wedding Venue in the Rockies

I got married on April 28, 2025 at the Bear and Bison Inn, and it was the best decision I could’ve made. We had 64 guests and we stayed two nights at the Inn. My number one compliment to this venue is the staff. Right from the beginning Lonny was a very responsive with emails and helping guide me through wedding planning. There were no hidden fees and everything was very professional and thought out. The day of the rehearsal dinner, check-in was smooth and Brooke and Barbara immediately started setting up all the little details I had planned. The service at the Inn was just incredible and they were so nice and reassuring. The staff were hands down one of the highlights of my wedding. The food was a 10/10 and everyone loved our tapas style dinner the day of the wedding. I was so impressed how efficiently food was distributed to everyone and how guests with dietary restrictions were provided for.

Our bartender was fantastic and even gave us tips on the best spots for pictures. The hot tub was a great feature and all the rooms were beautiful. BREAKFAST was unreal both days, and guests commented on how wonderful the whole space was. I can’t recommend this place enough. Definitely a cozy space that felt like I was getting married in a cabin tucked away in the mountains. Perfect for smaller intimate weddings. This venue is VERY experienced with what they do and can guide you to decisions that work best for everyone!
