Living, hiking and painting in the Canadian Rockies for over three decades has given Canmore artist Patti Dyment a profound appreciation of, and connection to the mountain landscape.

She paints en plein air as much as possible.

“My work is intended to celebrate our common experience of beauty. Inspired by nature, I paint relentlessly, I study painting, I think about and dream about painting.

It’s a wonderful fascination.”

During her residency at A Bear and Bison Inn, Patti Dyment chose our gazebo for her primary painting studio. A sanctuary lined with cheerful flower baskets and a welcome solace from the sweltering sun.

An Artist and her painting reunite!

The year was 2015, Uptown Funk was topping the charts, and Artsplace was having one of the sensational Creative Combat Events. 10 local Artists face-off speed painting blank canvases in two nail-biting 20 minute rounds. Patti took up the challenge in her first of many Creative Combats.

Paintings created here are auctioned off as a fundraiser for Artsplace. Easily influenced by all things bear, our owner Lonny purchased the painting. It has been adoring the walls of A Bear and Bison Inn ever since.

Fast forward to 2021, over chit chat at A Bear and Bison Artist Residency. Patti and Lonny realise their connection and and the familiar face of a 20 minute bear portrait finally gets Patti’s signature.

A Bear and Bison Inn on Trip Advisor

Wow! A Great Find!

The Bear & Bison exceeded all our expectations! Excellent Staff, service, charm, good value and an overall wonderful experience. Great location within walking distance to town and hiking. We stayed for 3 nights in early September and were lucky enough to stay one more night before returning to Calgary!

Both rooms we stayed in were spacious, had fireplaces, hot tubs, balconies and were well appointed. Lonnie, the owner served up 3 course gourmet breakfasts each morning.

The inn is charming with antiques and lots of room to lounge. The grounds are beautiful too with sitting areas to eat or just relax.
