Trip Report

The Bow Valley Parkway, winding gently through Banff National Park, offers travelers an authentic journey into Alberta’s stunning landscapes. Beginning at the vibrant townsite of Banff, this scenic route invites drivers to slow down, relax, and fully absorb the breathtaking mountain scenery.

From Banff, the parkway quickly transitions from town life to peaceful forests and open valleys. Early in the drive, Castle Mountain emerges, standing prominently as a silent guardian over the valley. Well-marked pullouts encourage frequent stops, providing safe opportunities to capture photographs or quietly observe the surrounding wildlife.

At Johnston Canyon, a midway highlight along the parkway, travelers can stretch their legs with a short hike to impressive waterfalls. The canyon offers accessible trails and boardwalks suitable for all visitors. The cool mist from cascading waters enhances the experience, especially during warmer months.

Continuing towards Lake Louise, the landscape broadens. Expansive meadows open up, offering panoramic views of distant peaks and close encounters with grazing wildlife. Elk, deer, and occasionally bears can be seen from the safety and comfort of the vehicle or designated viewpoints.

The journey concludes gracefully at Lake Louise, where the sparkling blue waters and backdrop of glaciers and mountains provide a memorable finale to the drive.
