Trip Report

The call of West Wind Pass and Wind Tower Peak is irresistible for those eager to explore the majesty of the Rockies beyond mere hiking. Our adventure began amidst dense spruce forests, with the trail gradually gaining elevation, revealing glimpses of the alpine beauty that awaited.

Upon reaching West Wind Pass, we were greeted with sweeping vistas of the Spray Valley. The verdant meadows juxtaposed against the ruggedness of the surrounding peaks presented nature’s contrasts in their purest form.

However, the true allure of this journey was the promise of Wind Tower Peak—an easy scramble that’s a perfect introduction for those new to the art of mountaineering. The ascent, while steep in parts, felt very manageable. Guided by a series of cairns and well-trodden paths, we navigated our way up, occasionally using our hands for balance and support.

Standing atop Wind Tower Peak, the world unfolded before us. It was a panorama of snow-capped peaks, undulating valleys, and shimmering lakes—a reward well worth the effort.

While the scramble was indeed rated easy, the sense of accomplishment was anything but minimal. It was a testament to the mountain’s generosity, offering a taste of its grandeur to those willing to venture.

Gear Up: Even for an easy scramble, ensure you wear grippy hiking boots. Gloves can also be beneficial for those chilly mornings and for added grip.
